Fashionably Good

2020 opened our eyes to many things including the fact that we weren’t dependent on fast fashion. Sweatpants and T-shirts and repeat – wardrobe maintenance was simpler, cheaper and sustainable.

While sustainable fashion, eco-friendly fashion and green fashion have all been trending across fashion weeks, very few aspects of this trend actually materialise in our own wardrobes. Sustainable fashion doesn’t need to be a costly affair and one that depends on accessibility. Instead, there is a much simpler and effortless way to reduce your fashion footprint.

Slow fashion is easy and environmentally-friendly since it means wearing your clothes longer instead of changing fashion with the latest trends. This results in fewer items being purchased and therefore, designed. Easy, simple and affordable – all you need to do is buy quality clothing, which you know you will wear frequently.

Go slow, go long and go green.

EASY TIPS TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE WARDROBE

BUY CONSCIOUSLY Think carefully before deciding to buy an item of clothing and ask yourself whether you will wear it over and over again.

BE UNIFORM Come up with a fashion statement for yourself – are you more black or white, more cotton or batik? Decide and stick to your choice to avoid unwanted purchases.

WASH CAREFULLY Taking care of your clothes means that you will be able to use them for longer. Avoid strong detergents and too much dry cleaning.

STAPLES AND ACCESSORIES Have a good mix of staples such as blue jeans, leggings, black T-shirts etc. – and accessories like belts, scarves and boleros so that you can keep revising your look.

WEAR OFTEN The best way to keep your clothes safe for longer is to use them regularly. Otherwise they may easily tear, be attacked by moths or fade.
